The Detroit Zoological Park, commonly known as the Detroit Zoo, is located about 2 miles north of the Detroit City limits at the intersection of Woodward Avenue, 10 Mile Road, and Interstate 696 in Royal Oak. The Detroit Zoological Society operates both the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo, both located in the City of Detroit. The Detroit Zoological Society is responsible for the care and feeding of more than 1,800 vertebrates and 5,000 invertebrates representing over 270 species.

The machines operate 3 different ways, traditional where you supply the penny, credit card where it supplies the penny or a one dollar bill where it supplies the penny. Cost per penny $1.01.

Machine 5: Is in the Polk Penguin Center (building at the front of the zoo that looks like an iceburg) by the elevators and gift shop. Designs are.

Machine 6: is in the Ford Education Building ( building next to buddies that houses the 4d films.) Across from the bathrooms. Designs are.

5/20/25: Both machines have been tested and are working for all forms of payment. Make sure you turn the wheel a full 8-10 times for the penny to drop. It will take at least 5 turns until you feel the penny being pressed.
For quarters you supply the penny and it goes in the penny slot and drops down the clear tube on top of the press plate. You won't see the penny in the machine ones its dropped.
For credit and dollars the machine supplies the penny. Work there
