The San Francisco Zoo (Originally named the Fleishhacker Zoo after its founder) is a 100-acre zoo located in the southwestern corner of San Francisco between Lake Merced and the Pacific Ocean along the Great Highway. The zoo's main entrance is to the west on the ocean side of the zoo off of the Great Highway.
This zoo is the birthplace of Koko the Gorilla and housed 693 individual animals representing about 197 species as of 2011.

Machine 23 - 2014: Near Zebras
1) Giant Anteater, 2) Bobcat, 3) Eastern Gray Kangaroo, 4) Emperor Tamarin.

Machine 24: (Located inside the Leaping Lemur Cafe 2026) Is a four design machine that takes dollar bills and is pre-loaded with circulated pennies. Most zinc but some copper abound. All have 'San Francisco Zoo' on them.

Token machine 1: is near the Customer Service office just inside the Main Entrance. Designs are:
1) Standing Tiger, 2) Giraffe.

Token machine 2: (2016) is near the Customer Service office just inside the Main Entrance.
1) Gorilla, on all four facing forward, 2) Red Panda, 3) Magellanic Penguin, 4) Sumatran Tiger.

12/16: San Francisco Zoo has a new token machine with 4 designs. GSY

1/18/26:
Machines 19, 20, & 22 are all at the entrance and you don't need a ticket to get to them.
Machine 19 is no longer in the Bear and it was Out of Order. The die is not moving when you turn the handle.
Machine 22 had an Out of Order sign on the Koala but I tried it and it rolled better than the Komodo Dragon design.
We found machine 23 near the Zebras and Machine 24 (zincs - has a Gorilla with 2026 on the die) at the Learping Lemur Cafe, both Out of Order. Someone rolled the die backwards after squashing the penny so a rolled penny is stuck in the die on both machines. What are the odds of that??
Machine 14 at the Carousel and Machine 13 by the Grizzly Bears were actually working.
So out of 7 machines - 3 were out of order, 4 were working. It cost us $72 to get in with paid parking and there were very few animals to out see. It was very disappointing at the zoo.today. JLT
