The San Francisco Zoo (Originally named the Fleishhacker Zoo after its founder) is a 100-acre zoo located in the southwestern corner of San Francisco between Lake Merced and the Pacific Ocean along the Great Highway. The zoo's main entrance is to the west on the ocean side of the zoo off of the Great Highway.
This zoo is the birthplace of Koko the Gorilla and housed 693 individual animals representing about 197 species as of 2011.

Machine 23 - 2014: Near Zebras
1) Giant Anteater, 2) Bobcat, 3) Eastern Gray Kangaroo, 4) Emperor Tamarin.

Machine 24: (Located inside the Leaping Lemur Cafe 2026) Is a four design machine that takes dollar bills and is pre-loaded with circulated pennies. Most zinc but some copper abound. All have 'San Francisco Zoo' on them.

Token machine 1: is near the Customer Service office just inside the Main Entrance. Designs are:
1) Standing Tiger, 2) Giraffe.

Token machine 2: (2016) is near the Customer Service office just inside the Main Entrance.
1) Gorilla, on all four facing forward, 2) Red Panda, 3) Magellanic Penguin, 4) Sumatran Tiger.

12/16: San Francisco Zoo has a new token machine with 4 designs. GSY

5/6/26:
Machines 19, 20 & 22 are all still by the entrance.
Machines 19 & 22 still have Out of Order signs.
Machine 20 worked fine.
Machine 23 near the Zebras worked. I only did the Eastern Gray Kangaroo and it was a very light press. I can't even feel some of the dots that make the border.
Machine 24 at the Learping Lemur Cafe was out of order. It was facing the wall.
Machine 14 at the Carousel was out of order and facing the wall.
Machine 13 by the Grizzly Bears was out of order. The coin slot was stuck.
I think both token machines near the entrance were also out of order.
Spoke to an employee who said that they have a penny guy but that he doesn't know how often he comes. So who knows when the machines will be fixed. RL
