USS Pampanito (SS-383/AGSS-383), a Balao-class submarine, was a United States Navy ship, the only one named for the pompano fish. She completed six war patrols from 1944 to 1945 and served as a Naval Reserve Training ship from 1960 to 1971. She is now a National Historic Landmark, preserved as a memorial and museum ship in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association located at Fisherman's Wharf.

These machines are near the WWII submarine, the USS Pampanito on Pier 45. There is a locked gate preventing access when the submarine is closed, check online for updated hours (currently 10am to 6pm). The machines are located outside the back entrance of the Musee Mecanique museum, against the wall. They are chained in place and do not move. Clearly they have been left in the elements and the machines are worse for wear because of it. However, the mechanisms still work and roll fine. Cost per roll is 51 cents and you use your own penny.

Two of the three single die machines are now located in the Musee Mecanique right next door.

Machine 4 is a hand crank next to the gift shop designs;
1) Rosie the Riveter
2) Mark 14 Torpedo
3) USS Pampanito
4) Sub in front of Golden Gate Bridge

Machine 5 designs are:
1) Golden Gate Bridge with Sub under,
2) Sailboat in front, of Golden Gate Bridge,
3) 'US Navy', Old diving Helmet,
4) 'Alcatraz, The Rock'.

Moved to Fisherman's Wharf - Pier 45 - Musee Mecanique Museum:

Moved 1: 1) 'USS Pampanite SS383 San Francisco', Battle wings
Moved 2: 1) 'We Can Do It', Rosie the Riveter,
Moved 3: 1) 'USS Pampanito SS383 San Francisco', Fish with Torpedo. (has been retired completely)

6/04/2026: The machines are chained outside in the weather. They are very rough looking on the outside but work fine to roll coins. BTF
