103 Main Street Smithfield, VA , 23430 Phone: (757) 356-1223 Website The Isle of Wight County Museum was founded in 1976 by a group of volunteers dedicated to the preservation of county history. Interpreting local history, the museum’s exhibits include prehistoric fossils, Native American and Colonial artifacts, a country store and displays regarding the ham industry and perhaps the museum’s most notable artifact: the world’s oldest, edible cured ham.
Machine 2: design is:
1) HAM CAPITAL OF THE WORLD SMITHFIELD, VA 2004', Drawing of the World's oldest, edible cured ham.
2) 'Antiques Emporium of Smithville', Words only.
3) unknown design (has a pig on it?)
Came from the Antiques Emporium of Smithville.
10/18/2025 - Designs came out looking great (when the penny would go thru). Costs $0.75 for each design
Electronic machine still located in the basement of the museum (great place with a lot of historical info on the area and the world's oldest cured ham and peanut, only $2 admission for adults and free for ages 17 and under).
The machine actually has 3 designs. Two are described in detail above and in the prior locations the machine was located at in Smithfield before being here. The third could not be seen.
You cannot pick which design you want because all 3 are on the same pressing "wheel" so it depends on which was pressed last as to which one you get. Pennies sometimes get stuck before being pressed and come out "attached/squished into" with the next attempt. The cashier that greets you when you come in is GREAT in that she helped me get a couple of pressed pennies (on multiple tries with the machine).. Free parking. {bjj} |
