10899 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA , 90024 Phone: (310) 443-7000 Website There is an accompanying fountain sculpture where visitors may throw their pressed penny to make a wish if they like.
This penny press is an interactive sculpture by Kelly Wall and part of the Hammer Museum's 'Made in LA' biannual.
Machine 1 located on the third floor across from the gift shop. Designs include:
1) "ONE WISH" with a wishing star in the sky,
2) "SOMETHING TO HOLD ON TO",
3) "ONE WISH" with a shooting star,
4) "You are Here" (on front) "Then You're Gone" (reverse side)
2/23/26: Rolling short on copper. Pennies are supplied and the use of this machine is 100% free (no admission to enter the museum).
Machine located on the third floor across from the gift shop. Visited machine twice because first time it was out of order.
Sign next to machine requests that visitors use supplied pennies (big stack next to the machine). I noticed that all of the supplied pennies were copper; is it possble that zinc pennies were causing the jams?
Exhibit closes on March 1, 2026; no idea where the machine will end up. - JLK
