Listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, the Bayeux Tapestry, located in the Tapestry Museum, is an invaluable record of the conquest of the throne of England by William the Conqueror. Probably ordered by Odon de Bayeux, William’s half-brother, and made in the years following the conquest. This 224 foot (68.3 meters) long and 20 inches (50 cm) high embroidery chronicles the legendary tale of the Norman conquest of England, when William the Conqueror invaded and defeated King Harold Godwinson along with the clothes, the castles, the ships and the conditions of life in the 11th century.
