The Interisland ferry is the longest running Cook Strait ferry service in New Zealand. Interislander sails between Wellington (North Island) and Picton (South Island) carrying walk on passengers and drive on vehicles. The Interislander ferry is known as one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world and one of New Zealand's most iconic tourism experiences. The Interisland connects to the scenic rail experiences; the Coastal Pacific, which runs from Picton to Christchurch, and the Northern Explorer which journeys through the heart of the North Island.
Hours of operation of terminal: 8:00 am daily. Closes: 8.00 pm daily, 11:00 pm on Sundays. The Kaitaki Interislander sails once a day from Picton to Wellington, arrives in Picton at 12:30 pm and leaves Picton at 2:15 pm. Hours may vary according to sailing schedule.
Short term parking for a fee is available.
The Ferry Kaitaki penny is on board in the Family Fun area next to the gift shop. You must have a ticket to get on board. You will need a $1(NZ) coin and a 10 cent (NZ) piece. Design is:
