It was started around 1186, finished in 1204 with an expansion started in 1280 and finished by 1350. It is the largest of the mediaeval cathedrals in Portugal, and one of its best examples of Gothic architecture. It is situated in the Acropolis, the highest point of the city, where you can also see the Roman Temple of Diana. While at the Cathedral in Évora, take an 8 minute walk to the Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones at Praca 1 de Maio, phone number +351 266 704 521) and view the highly impressive display of bones.
Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday 09.00 (9:00 am) to 17.00 (5:00 pm).
Minimal parking close by the Cathedral.
Admission: €5. Currently, you must pay admission to access all three machines. If you ask nicely, they may let you in to just press the coins and/or purchase the tokens.
All three machines are next to each other in the entry after admission.
Machine 1 Cost to press: €1.05 each design (€1 coin and a 5 Euro cent coin). Designs all have a beaded border with 'Évora'.
