The railroad' mainline is over 470 miles long and is well over 500 miles including branch lines and siding tracks. The railroad is connected to the other 48 states via three rail barges that sail between the Port of Whittier, Alaska and Harbor Island in Seattle but do not currently have a direct, land-based connection with any other railroad lines on the North American network. Hours of operation: Summer Ticket Counter Hours (mid-May to mid-September): Daily 5:30 am to 1:00 pm. Summer Gift Shop Hours: Daily 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Winter Ticket Counter Hours (mid-September to Mid-May): Tuesday through Friday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Saturday & first Thursday of the month 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. Closed Sundays, Mondays & Holidays. Winter Gift Shop Hours: May vary; call 907.265.2326 to confirm schedule.
Admission: Free admission into the Depot. Pay parking available; $20 for 24 hours.
Machine 3 (Single design) is located in the passenger depot lobby next to the men's room. Design has a beaded border:
1) (H) SD70MAC locomotive with 'Alaska Railroad Scenic Rail Tours'. (This is the same design that is in the Seward Depot).
Machine 4 (Single design) is at the opposite end of passenger depot lobby. Design has a beaded border:
1) (H) NRE E3000CC-DC locomotive with 'Alaska Railroad, Anchorage'.
