Comments:	From the Middle Ages onwards, a fire guided sailors to Pointe Saint-Mathieu: the monks maintained a beacon at the top of the abbey's square tower to announce the entrance to the Brest narrows and the perilous Four channel. When the old Abbey tower threatened to collapse, the Navy built a lighthouse nearby: taller, more powerful, and more modern. Inaugurated in 1835, electrified in 1932, and remotely controlled since 2005, the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse's beam crosses a range of 24 nautical miles, or just over 44 km, thanks to its Fresnel lenses. This device celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2023. <p> Hours of operation: The machine is available Monday through Sunday 24 hours. Check the website for the dates and hours of the lighthouse and museum tours. <p> Admission: You do not have to pay admission to access the machine. Adult (ages 13 and up) €5, Children (5 to 12 years old) €2.50, 5 years old and younger are free.
