600 East Grand Avenue Chicago, IL , 60611 Phone: (800) 595-PIER Website Navy Pier is a 3,300-foot-long pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. It is located in the Streeterville neighborhood of the Near North Side community area.
The Pier currently encompasses more than fifty acres of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants, family attractions and exhibition facilities and is the top leisure destination in the Midwestern United States. It is one of the most visited attractions in the entire Midwest and is Chicago's number one tourist attraction.
Both machines 5 and 6 (labeled 1 and 2 on machines) are located right next to each other, on the outside of the "Making History Chicago" gift shop, which is in the middle of the pier length-wise, and is on the inside of the larger building. If you are standing outside of the store and looking towards it, there will be a hallway to your right that leads to a parking garage. Walk into that hallway, and you will see both machines on your right. They are in a dark corner and can be very hard to find. Machines preloaded with zinc pennies and the pennies cost $1 each; machine only accepts $1 bills, no credit/debit cards.

9/17: Machines 5 and 6 installed here.
9/1/25: Updated location information above. Neither machine is lit up at all to indicate that they are on and working,
However Machine 6 did take my dollar bills. It did take many attempts and multiple tries of different dollar bills to get it to accept my dollar. I tried crumpling a crisp dollar bill some, which seems to help it accept it, but it seemed like this didn't always work, so your milage may vary. Machine 6 is rolling very well on zinc!
Machine 5 would not accept any bills at all and seemed to be completely offline, despite being plugged in.
I even tried switching 5 and 6's plugs on the wall to see if that would fix it, but it did not.
I asked the MHC store staff, but they did not know who owns the machines or anything about them. |
