537 South C Street Virginia City, NV , 89440-0000 Phone: (775) 847-0975 Website Historic Fourth Ward School is a towering 4-story Victorian-era structure built in 1876 that is the last-one-standing: the only remaining four-story, wood-framed school of its kind in the United States. Originally designed as a state-of-the-art facility for over 1,000 students in grades 1 through 12, it closed its doors as a school in 1936. Today, it operates as a meticulously restored museum and cultural center. The Museum offers a window into life in an Old West boomtown and 19th-century education. Visitors can explore 16 preserved classrooms with original desks and artifacts, as well as exhibits on Comstock mining, the life of Mark Twain, local history, and a vintage letterpress print shop.
