Chemin de Couleyras AUVERGNE-RHôNE-ALPES - Orcines, France, 63870 Phone: +33 473 622 146 Website Puy de Dôme is a large lava dome and one of the youngest volcanoes in the Chaîne des Puys region of Massif Central in south-central France. This chain of volcanoes including numerous cinder cones, lava domes, and maars is far from the edge of any tectonic plate. Built in the 2nd century after Christ, at the top of the puy de Dôme in the heart of the territory of the Arvernes, the temple of Mercury was the largest mountain sanctuary in Roman Gaul.
Hours of operation: Minimum hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Check the website; hours are extended in the warmer months.
Admission: Free admission to the visitors center and to walk to the top of the mountain. A fee is charged to take the train from the visitors center to the top of the mountain.
