Muir Woods National Monument is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Muir Woods is located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge Off of Highway 1.

There is usually a Muir Woods Shuttle on weekends and holidays from May 3 through the end of September.
The cafe and gift shop are on the first right once you enter the park's main entrance past the Ranger ticket booth. The per person entrance fee is required to access..

Parking reservation is now $9.00 or the shuttle costs $3.50 per person. Park entry fees are additional.

The machine is still outside the gift shop by the large carved bears., Designs are:
1) Bust of John Muir
2) Owl
3) Giant Redwood tree
3) Grove of Redwoods

4/23: Purchased silver token up at register in gift shop
5/23 They no longer have a penny collector book.

7/11/25 Machine is still located outside. Best to cover where the penny comes out as sometimes they jump out & fall between the wood planks. Could see quite a few of them under the decking.
