It was opened in 1981 and was constructed during Baltimore's urban renewal period. The Aquarium has a collection of 16,500 specimens representing 660 species. Particular attractions include the dolphin display, rooftop rain forest, and central ray pool, and multiple-story shark tank. The National Aquarium in Baltimore is widely considered to be one of the best in the United States, if not the world. Coastal Living named it the #1 Aquarium in the U.S. in 2006.

4-04-2026 There are now 5 machines all together in the walkway heading towards the dolphin exhibit. Three only take quarters ($1 each) and you need your own pennies. The other two have three options (dollar bills or credit and they have their own pennies) or quarters and you supply the pennies.
All 5 roll well although one of the quarter machines is missing the marker to show which option to choose. <>br>
Also both token machines are together but I don’t recall their location.
