1266 Craters Loop Road Arco, Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve, ID , 83213-0000 Phone: (208) 527-1335 Website Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, at an average elevation of 5,900 feet above sea level, is a National Monument and National Preserve located in the Snake River Plain in central Idaho region of volcanic cones, craters, and lava flows. The protected area's features are volcanic and represent one of the best preserved flood basalt areas in the continental United States. The Monument was established on May 2, 1924. The Craters of the Moon visitor center is named for Robert Limbert, who first mapped, photographed, and promoted this area nearly a century ago.
The Robert Limbert Visitors Center is 18 miles southwest of Arco, 24 miles northeast of Carey on Highway 20/26/93 and 84 miles from Idaho Falls, and 90 miles from Twin Falls.
Hours of operation: Wednesday through Sunday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. A Penny book ($4.95 plus tax), a Token book ($4.95 plus tax) and a 1" mini-token (99¢ plus tax) are for sale at the front desk. Plenty of free parking.
Machine 1 (Placed Feb. 2011) is inside the visitors center between the bathrooms. Cost to press: 51¢ each design. Designs all have a "pennycollector.com" beaded border with 'Craters Of The Moon':

3/22/2026 The Visitors Center is under renovations and is closed. A small gift shop is open nearby but the penny machine is inaccessible. The Park Ranger believes it will be removed. She was very friendly and helpful and took my pennies and quarters and rolled them for me! -RTH |
